Helpful Tips

Important Information Before You Begin:

  • Apply for a USC Credit Union's membership ONLY IF you plan to be in the U.S this semester, since we are unable to mail debit cards internationally at this time.
  • If you are trying to access our membership application from another country and are experiencing technical difficulties, try accessing our application using a VPN (virutal private network). USC offers free VPN services to students, which you can access here.

You Will Need:

  • Government-issued ID or International Passport
  • USC ID or Acceptance letter (must have USC ID Number on letter)

Step 1: Complete the Membership Application

  • Complete our online membership application.
  • If you do not have a U.S. Social Security Number, you will need to complete a Certificate of Foreign Status (W8) Form, which will be emailed to you after you complete your membership application
  • Please use your current mailing address and phone number, even if it is an international address or phone number. Once you move to the states you can update your new address address and/or phone number via online banking. If you already live in the US, please use your current mailing address and phone number.
  • The minimum initial deposit to open your account is $10 (there is a $9 one-time membership fee and $1 minimum deposit to your savings account). You may be prompted to deposit a total of $44 into your account, however, you will have access to those funds at any time. For more information about how to fund your account with a wire transfer from an international bank, click here.

Step 2: Fund Your Account

  • To avoid traveling with large amounts of cash, most international students prefer to wire transfer money before they arrive to Los Angeles. We strongly recommend this!
  • You will receive two free incoming wire transfers per year!*
  • Once we receive your application, we will contact you to finalize your new membership account.

Step 3: Activate Your Account

  • As soon as you get to the U.S., if you used the Credit Union’s address (3720 S. Flower St.), please update your account with your new address via online banking.
  • Once you’ve updated your address you can call or email us to request to receive your debit card via mail or make an appointment to visit one of our branch locations to pick up your debit card.

Step 4: Access Account Online

  • You will receive your account number via mail (if you are in the states) or a secured Docusign email (if you are abroad) once the account has been opened within 24 hours.
  • Use your Account Number/Member Number to register for online banking and mobile banking.

To receive a wire transfer, make sure your sending banking has these three (3) pieces of information.

  • Wire to Receiving (Intermediary/ Respondent) Bank:
    • SWIFT code: BOFCUS33MPK
      MUFG Union Bank, N.A.
      Monterey Park, CA
  • Credit to Beneficiary Institution:
    • Account: 2761014360
      USC Credit Union
      Los Angeles, CA
  • Final credit to the recipient:
    • Your USCCU account number
    • Your full name
  • Pay USC directly online.
    • Login to your myUSC account.
    • Click "Pay My Bill" from your service dashboard.
    • Click "Make A Payment" in the top menu.
    • Once you get to the checkout, select "Electronic Check."
    • You will be prompted to enter your account number and routing number. Need to find your account number? Here's a quick guide.
  • Pay from your account at the branch.
    • Visit a USC Credit Union branch and bring your USC ID.
    • Ask the teller to transfer your payment amount to your tuition.
    • Take your receipt from the teller line to the USC Cashier's Office to finalize the payment.
  • As a new USC student, we recommend you open both a student checking and savings account. A savings account is required to become a member of USC Credit Union, and is an account used for money you’d like to save for the future. Any money you don’t plan on using for your day to day spending should be kept in this account. We recommend a student checking account for every day spending. With this account, you’ll receive a debit card, which you can use to withdraw money from ATM’s and make purchases at stores or online.
