You may cancel the protection at any time. If you cancel protection within 30 days, you will receive a full refund of any fee paid.
    4Rate is applied to the outstanding Loan balance each month; however, if the outstanding Loan balance is greater than $100,000, the rate will not apply to the amount that exceeds $100,000.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Peace of Mind Protection is available for USC Credit Union Vehicle Loans, Personal Loans, Solar Loans, Student Loans, and Credit Cards for borrowers and co-borrowers at the time of application or after the loan is funded.

    To qualify for Disability benefits, you or your co-borrower must: 

    • Be actively working, for wages or profit, at least 25 hours per week on the Effective Date of Protection*
    • Meet the definition of Disability for at least 14 consecutive days
    • Not be actively working at any job (or combination of jobs) paying an income greater than or equal to 80% of the income you were earning immediately preceding the date you qualified for Disability

    To qualify for Involuntary Unemployment benefits, you or your co-borrower must:

    • Be actively working, for wages or profit, at least 25 hours per week on the Effective Date of Protection*
    • Meet the definition of Involuntary Unemployment for at least 14 consecutive days
    • Receive/have received state unemployment benefits for the period of unemployment for which you’re requesting Protection Activation
    • Be seeking Active Employment
    • Provide proof of qualification for Involuntary Unemployment protection at the time of Protection Activation and throughout the protected period

    *Effective Date of Protection means the later of: (1) the date the Borrower purchased protection under this program option; or (2) the date We reinstate the Borrower’s protection under the Contract if applicable.

    1. Life Plus – Cancels your loan balance or payments in the event of the death of protected borrower or non-protected dependent1, hospitalization, family medical leave, terminal illness1, or accidental dismemberment.
    2. Life Plus Disability – Cancels your loan balance or payments for the events protected by Life Plus in addition to disability.
    3. Life Plus Disability and Unemployment – Cancels your loan balance or payments for the events protected by Life Plus and Life Plus Disability in addition to unemployment.

    The cost of Peace of Mind Protection is based on the plan you select and is automatically adjusted each month based on the remaining balance and term of your loan.

    • Life Plus: $1.19 per $1,000
    • Life Plus Disability: $2.99 per $1,000
    • Life Plus Disability and Unemployment: $3.99 per $1,000

    New Loans: Peace of Mind Protection fees are applied to your monthly loan balance.

    Existing Loans: Peace of Mind Protection fees can either be 1) applied to your monthly loan balance or 2) added to your loan term.

    There is no limit to the number of loans you can protect. You can add Peace of Mind Protection to any eligible USC Credit Union loan.

    If opted in for text or email status updates, you will receive a link to lendingclaim.trustage.com to finish filing your claim. This notification will give you a choice to share your claim details, either online at lendingclaim.trustage.com or over the phone at 800.621.6323. If we don’t hear from you or upon request, you will be mailed a paper claim form.

    Benefits are paid directly to your loan balance after your claim is approved.

    All Options
    An event will not be protected if it:

    • is the result of a felony committed by the Borrower;
    • is caused by or results from an atomic explosion or any other release of nuclear energy (except when used solely for medical treatment);
    • is the result of an elective cosmetic surgery;
    • is the result of an intentionally self-inflicted injury;
    • occurs prior to the Effective Date of Protection*.

    Life Plus
    A death event will not be protected if it:

    • occurs within the 6 months immediately following the Effective Date of Protection* for the Advance, and is related to a pre-existing condition for which the Borrower received advice, diagnosis, or treatment (including medication) within the 6 months immediately preceding the Effective Date of Protection* for the Advance; or
    • is the result of suicide that occurs within the 12 months immediately following the Effective Date of Protection* for the Advance.
    • An event (other than the Borrower’s death) will not be protected if the event occurs within the 3 months immediately following the Effective Date of Protection* for the Advance.

    Disability
    Disability will not be protected if it:

    • occurs within the 6 months immediately following the Effective Date of Protection* for the Advance, and is related to a pre-existing condition for which the Borrower received advice, diagnosis, or treatment (including medication) within the 6 months immediately preceding the Effective Date of Protection* for the Advance; or
    • is related to a normal pregnancy.

    Involuntary Unemployment
    Involuntary Unemployment will not be protected if it:

    • includes any Annual, Regularly Scheduled, or Seasonal Layoff or any period of unemployment that occurs while the Borrower is a Temporary Employee, independent contractor, self-employed, or employed by a joint Borrower;
    • includes any retirement, vacation, strike, unionized labor dispute, lockout, termination due to the Borrower’s Willful or Criminal Misconduct, voluntary unemployment, voluntary loss of wages, or spousal relocation;
    • occurs within the 3 months immediately following the Effective Date of Protection* for the Advance.

    *Effective Date of Protection means the later of: (1) the date the Borrower purchased protection under this program option; or (2) the date We reinstate the Borrower’s protection under the Contract if applicable.

    You may cancel the protection at any time by providing us with a written notification. If you cancel protection within 30 days of adding coverage, you will receive a full refund of any fee paid.

    If you cancel protection after 30 days of adding coverage, fees will automatically be subtracted from the principal balance.
